Episode 10: Don't Fix the Woman—Fix the Institution
April 20, 2021 | 9 am PT / 12 pm ET
Women make $0.81 for every $1.00 men make. Accounting for gender and race makes these numbers even worse. Unfortunately, the onus to negotiate for a fair share has been placed on women (the employee) as opposed to the employer. There are many, well-intentioned “Fix-the-Woman” initiatives to help women build confidence and improve negotiating skills, because there is research that suggests women are less likely than men to negotiate their pay. Yet it’s the employers in the majority of the U.S. that are legally obligated to provide fair pay — fair pay that’s not contingent on negotiations.
On April 20th, an expert panel will discuss the benefits of adopting tangible "Fix-the-Institution" initiatives as a means to reducing pay disparities between men and women.
In this webinar, you will learn:
- Why and how "Fix-the-Woman" initiatives perpetuate underrepresentation in higher paying fields and in leadership positions
- Tangible ways to ensure equitable, fair starting offers are made to all hires
- The strongest evidence on effectiveness in narrowing gender disparities
